America's Test Kitchen is the half-hour American cooking series of the company America's Test Kitchen, carried by public television stations and by the Create network and distributed by American Public Television. It has run since 2001 and the site now lists twenty-six seasons. The show is filmed in a real working test kitchen, and since season nineteen that kitchen is the company facility in the Innovation and Design Building in Boston, part of a fifteen thousand square foot space in the Seaport District; the programme is produced by WETA-TV, the public station in Washington. The format puts a handful of test cooks in front of the camera while they prepare recipes and explain what works, what fails and why.
The cast is named and stable. Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison host, Christopher Kimball presented the first seasons, and around them work Keith Dresser, Becky Hayes, Lan Lam, Dan Souza, Bryan Roof and Morgan Bolling, with Adam Ried on equipment, Lisa McManus on gadgets and Jack Bishop in the tasting lab. A typical episode runs two or three recipes with the reasoning behind them, and the same method appears in the magazines Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country, in cookbooks, in online classes and in video series and podcasts, some exclusive to Netflix. The editorial line is that a recipe is tested repeatedly until it works in a home kitchen.
