Telesur English live stream

Telesur English online television

teleSUR English is a Venezuelan international news network operating as the English-language service of teleSUR (La Nueva Televisora del Sur), a pan-Latin American multimedia outlet . The primary language of broadcasting is English. teleSUR was founded in 2005 on the initiative of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez as a collaborative project between several South American nations. The English-language service was officially launched on July 24, 2014, first as a website, with a 24-hour broadcast channel following in July 2015 . The network is headquartered in Caracas, Venezuela, and is publicly funded by the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Uruguay . The network’s slogan is "Our North is the South."

On air, teleSUR English features a mix of rolling news bulletins, current affairs programs, political analysis, talk shows, and documentaries. The network’s mission, as stated on its platforms, is to highlight the voices often ignored by mainstream media and to provide a Latin American perspective on global news . The network's editorial stance is widely described as left-leaning and is intended as a counterweight to private networks like CNN en Español .

Flagship and regular programming includes The World Today, an interview show hosted by Anglo-Pakistani author and filmmaker Tariq Ali, who has been with teleSUR since its inception . The network also produces Impacto Económico (analyzing the Latin American economy), El Mapa (covering world geopolitics), Atomun (focusing on science and technology), and Deportes teleSUR (sports news). The network is also known for its in-depth documentary work, including coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the perspective of Gaza .

In addition to its television output, teleSUR English maintains a robust digital presence. The website features special columns, forums, debates, user-generated content, videos, and blogs from prominent intellectuals and columnists including Noam Chomsky, Phyllis Bennis, Walden Bello, Laura Flanders, John Pilger, and others . The network has a network of correspondents and opened a production center for English content in Quito, Ecuador .

teleSUR English is available worldwide via satellite. It broadcasts in high definition on various satellites: for Pan Europe on Astra 1P at 19.2°E, for Sub-Saharan Africa on SES 5 at 5.0°E (encrypted on StarSat), and for the Americas on Intelsat 14 at 45.0°W . The network also streams its content online through its official website.

teleSUR English strives to offer an alternative to major media conglomerates by covering news that affects the Global South and providing a platform for voices that are often marginalized. The mission of the channel is to broadcast public service information from a uniquely Latin American perspective, filling what it describes as a void in the English-language coverage of the region .

The election panels are strongest when they let local voices challenge the official line. I could do without the frantic ticker racing along the bottom, though; it makes serious reporting harder to follow.

The regional business reports keep me coming back, even when the app is slow to load.
Leo Price
I am curious how they will cover the next big regional election without the usual cable-news spin.

After midnight, the interviews are often the best part of the schedule, though the stream has started dropping for a few seconds during late-night segments. Still worth checking when I want news beyond the usual headlines.

HD took a few seconds to appear on my TV, but the picture stayed sharp afterward and the sound remained perfectly in sync.

Tonight's From the South gave a useful rundown of regional politics and social issues without rushing through the details. I like that the reports include voices from across Latin America.

I usually watch From the South around 8 pm when I am abroad, and the regional stories feel more useful than the short cable-news clips. The stream stayed watchable on a slow hotel connection, though the occasional audio dip was distracting.

I caught a recent documentary segment on migration after work in Europe, and it offered context that my cable news usually skips. The stream was reliable on a slow evening, though the player took a little longer to load than the TV apps I normally use.

The HD picture looks crisp on my Fire Stick, and the sound stays in sync without buffering through the evening.

Useful updates from the region.
