TV Cultura online television

TV Cultura is a Brazilian public television network operating in the educational and cultural format. The primary language of broadcasting is Portuguese. The network was originally founded on September 20, 1960, by Diários Associados, the media group of Assis Chateaubriand. After an administrative transition, it was relaunched on June 15, 1969, under the ownership of the Government of the State of São Paulo, which transferred control to the Fundação Padre Anchieta (Father Anchieta Foundation), a non-profit entity that manages the network to this day. Its headquarters are located in São Paulo, and the network is available nationwide via digital terrestrial television, satellite, and cable platforms. Its slogan is "Uma TV diferente" (A Different TV).

On air, TV Cultura is renowned for its high-quality, non-commercial programming focused on education, arts, science, and journalism. Key journalistic programs include the long-standing talk show Roda Viva, which has aired since September 1986. The program features a guest seated in a swivel chair while journalists from various outlets ask questions from a higher position, creating an informal yet rigorous debate atmosphere. In February 2026, journalist Ernesto Paglia was confirmed as the new presenter of Roda Viva, taking over from Vera Magalhães as part of an editorial renewal. Other significant news programs include Jornal da Cultura (Culture News), a nightly newscast with expert commentary, and Jornal da Tarde (Afternoon News). The network also produces the environmental news magazine Repórter Eco and the urban mobility show Vamos Pedalar.

Cultural and debate programming is a cornerstone of the network. Metrópolis, on air since 1988, covers avant-garde artistic trends including video art, experimental cinema, and short films. Provoca is an interview show hosted by Marcelo Tas that blends philosophy and pop culture. Café Filosófico Expresso features two guests engaging in deep, unscripted debates on societal topics. The network also offers specialized music programs such as Cultura Livre (focusing on new Brazilian music) and Brasil Jazz Sinfônica. Negros em Foco explores the music market's absorption of styles created by Black artists.

TV Cultura has a rich tradition of educational and children's programming. The award-winning children's show Quintais da Cultura airs daily, featuring characters like the iguana Ludovico and the minhoca (earthworm) Minhoquias. The network also airs international children's series dubbed into Portuguese, such as Peppa, Oi Duggee!, Shaun the Sheep, Simon, and The Adventures of Tintin. Educational content for adults includes Saúde Brasil (health), Educação Brasileira (education policy), Inglês com Música (English learning through music), and Agrocultura, which explores the universe of agribusiness.

TV Cultura is available throughout Brazil via digital terrestrial television on various channels depending on the region (e.g., channel 2.1 in São Paulo, channel 31.1 in Rio de Janeiro). It is also widely carried on major pay-TV operators, including Claro TV (channels 26 and 501 HD), Vivo TV (channel 251), and Oi TV (channel 2). Viewers can watch online the live broadcast of TV Cultura through its official website at cultura.uol.com.br.

TV Cultura strives to fulfill its public service mission by offering an educational, cultural, and journalistic alternative to mainstream commercial networks. The mission of the channel is to inform, educate, and entertain the Brazilian public with content that prioritizes quality, depth, and intellectual rigor over mass-market ratings. The network has been internationally recognized, being ranked as the second-best television channel in the world in terms of quality in 2015, surpassed only by BBC One. Thanks to modern digital platforms, TV Cultura provides the opportunity to watch online its live broadcast on any device - from smartphones to computers - ensuring that its cultural and educational programming reaches audiences across Brazil and the global Portuguese-speaking diaspora wherever they are.
