Record News online television

Record News is a Brazilian free-to-air television channel operating in the 24-hour news format. The primary language of broadcasting is Portuguese. The channel was launched on September 27, 2007, during the tenure of Alexandre Raposo as president of Rede Record de Televisão (2005-2013) . The channel occupies the frequency previously used by Rede Mulher, a network founded in 1994 and purchased by Grupo Record in 1999 . Record News made history as the first free-to-air terrestrial news channel in Brazil, and the third Brazilian news channel overall, following GloboNews and BandNews TV . The channel is owned by Grupo Record, a media conglomerate owned by Edir Macedo, who is also the founder of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, and Ester Bezerra . The channel's headquarters are located at Alameda Ministro Rocha Azevedo, 395, in the Cerqueira César neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil .

On air, Record News features a mix of news bulletins, current affairs programs, talk shows, sports coverage, and documentary content. The flagship program is Jornal da Record News, hosted by Heródoto Barbeiro, a journalist and historian and former anchor of the acclaimed educational program Roda Viva on TV Cultura . The program was launched with a team of commentators that included notable names such as David Uip, Beth Goulart, Daniel Castro, Rubens Ewald Filho, Nirlando Beirão, Ricardo Kotscho, and Paulo Henrique Amorim, though these commentators were gradually dismissed over time, with Nirlando and Kotscho being the last to leave in October 2017 . The channel also broadcasts news programs from RecordTV's schedule, including Jornal da Record, hosted by Celso Freitas and Adriana Araújo, which features investigative reporting with correspondents across Brazil and internationally in New York, Washington D.C., London, Lisbon, Tokyo, and Jerusalem . Other RecordTV newscasts aired on Record News include Fala Brasil, Esporte Fantástico, Domingo Espetacular, and Câmera Record .

Additional news programming includes Hora News, Record News (featuring viewer interaction via social media), Repórter em Ação (a compilation of RecordTV's main news stories), Record News Rural (covering agribusiness news, agricultural entrepreneurship, market prices, and rural lifestyle), and Arquivo Record . The channel also produces Record News Paulista focusing on São Paulo state news and Eco Record News Amazônia, which showcases natural beauty and provides tips on sustainable living . The newsroom is coordinated by Douglas Tavolaro de Oliveira, Vice President of Journalism and Sports for Grupo Record and nephew of Edir Macedo, who has overseen the channel's journalism and the editorial project of the news portal R7 since 2009 . The CEO of Record TV is Luiz Cláudio Costa, who has held various positions in Grupo Record since 1994 .

Beyond news, Record News broadcasts a variety of specialized and lifestyle programming. Cartão de Visita is an interview program about careers and professional trajectories . Companhia de Viagem presents tourist destinations in Brazil and internationally . Grandes Nomes da Propaganda covers case reports, brands, awards, events, and curiosities from the advertising and marketing industry . Momento Moto is dedicated to motorcycling news and culture . Zapping is a variety show covering television, cinema, internet, fashion, music, entertainment, behavior, and health . Late Show with David Letterman and Roberto Justus + have also been part of the channel's schedule . The channel also broadcasts sports programming, including NASCAR racing (Sprint Cup Series and Whelen Euro Series), as part of a transmission rights contract signed with the American racing competition . The channel previously carried coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics, and the Pan American Games in 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019, for which Raposo had acquired the broadcast rights .

Religious programming is also part of the schedule, reflecting the channel's ownership by Grupo Record. The channel airs Escola do Amor Responde (The Love School), presented daily from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM by Cristiane Cardoso and Renato Cardoso, who are the daughter and son-in-law of Edir Macedo .

Record News has achieved a significant audience reach, reportedly reaching a higher rating than its cable competitors GloboNews and BandNews TV . According to Kantar IBOPE data, the channel holds an audience share of approximately 0.5 percent . The channel debuted with a network of 101 affiliate stations and transmitters across Brazil, and today reaches 391 cities in Brazil, according to the corporation . The channel is also present internationally via Record News Internacional, reaching Portuguese-speaking audiences in Germany, France, Portugal, Angola, and Mozambique . The international version serves as a bridge for Brazilians living abroad, providing exclusive reports, interviews with relevant personalities, and informative content that connects the diaspora to news from Brazil and the world .

The launch of Record News was not without controversy. Two days prior to the launch, the Vice President of Organizações Globo, Evandro Guimarães, visited Brasília to meet with government officials, including the Communications Minister Hélio Costa, accusing Rede Record of illegally owning two television networks (RecordTV and Record News) in the city of São Paulo, as Brazilian law prohibits owning more than one television station in a single city . Rede Record responded by attacking Rede Globo in an editorial on Jornal da Record, accusing Globo of trying to maintain a media monopoly and of being afraid of Record News because it would lose advertising revenue from its cable news channel GloboNews. Rede Record also claimed that Record News was located outside the city of São Paulo and therefore broadcasting legitimately, while also referencing Rede Globo's past dealings during Brazil's military dictatorship . Rede Globo responded by stating the attack had no merits and that Rede Record was simply jealous of Globo's high ratings .

Record News is available throughout Brazil via digital terrestrial television in 735 cities across 17 capitals . The channel is also available on cable and satellite providers, and internationally via Record News Internacional. Viewers can watch online the live broadcast of Record News through the official Record News website and via the Record News mobile application available for Android devices, which offers live streaming, breaking news alerts, and on-demand content covering politics, health, tourism, sports, and news from Brazil and the world .

Record News strives to provide credible, free, and 24-hour news coverage to Brazilian audiences, operating under the motto "A líder em notícias" (The leader in news) . The mission of the channel is to bring information to everyone free of charge with credibility, connecting Brazilians across the globe to the most relevant and current news. As the first free-to-air all-news channel in Brazil, Record News has solidified its position as one of the most-watched Portuguese-language news channels in the world, reaching millions of viewers in Europe, Africa, and Asia . Thanks to modern digital platforms, Record News provides the opportunity to watch online the live broadcast on any device - from smartphones to Smart TVs - ensuring that Brazilian audiences across the country and the global diaspora can access its news coverage wherever they are.
