Al Manar online television
Al-Manar (Arabic: المنار, meaning "The Lighthouse") is a Lebanese satellite television channel operating in the 24-hour news and political talk format. The primary language of broadcasting is Arabic. The channel was founded on June 4, 1991, as a terrestrial broadcaster and began satellite transmission in 2000. It is headquartered in the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut, Lebanon, which is located in the city's southern Dahiyeh district. The channel is owned and operated by the Lebanese Communication Group (L.C.G. SAL), which was established by the Shi'a Islamist political party and militant group Hezbollah. Al-Manar is widely known as the "Station of the Resistance" (qanat al-muqawama) and serves as Hezbollah's official mouthpiece. Its self-proclaimed mission includes conducting "effective psychological warfare" against the "Zionist enemy," i.e., the state of Israel.
On air, Al-Manar features a mix of news bulletins, political talk shows, commentary, and entertainment programming. The flagship news program covers domestic Lebanese politics, regional developments, and international events from a Hezbollah perspective, with a strong editorial line that is anti-Israel and anti-Western. The station is known for its talk shows, including Beit al-ankabut (The Spider's House), a reference to a metaphor used by former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to describe Israel. Other programs include Hadith al-sa'a (Talk of the Hour) and Matha ba'ad (What's Next?), which feature discussions with journalists, analysts, and Islamic scholars. The channel's reporting in 2026 has included coverage of Israel-Hezbollah tensions and Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem's statements rejecting direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
Al-Manar broadcasts in 1080p high definition (MPEG-4) and is available via satellite across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and North America. The channel is unencrypted and free-to-air, but its availability has been significantly restricted internationally. The channel is available via several satellite operators, though it has been subject to blocking orders and bans in multiple countries. In the United States, the channel was designated as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity" and banned in December 2004. In the European Union, the channel was banned from EU satellites in 2005. France banned the channel's broadcast in 2004. Germany banned Al-Manar in 2008, and in December 2024, the German Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media ordered all telecommunications companies to block access to Al-Manar's websites and live stream. The channel remains accessible online in many regions via its official website. The channel has also faced military actions; during the July 2006 Lebanon War, Israeli warplanes struck the channel's headquarters in Beirut, and the building was targeted again by an Israeli airstrike in March 2026.
Viewers can watch online the tv online service of Al-Manar through its official website at almanar.com.lb, which offers a live stream in various languages. The channel maintains a multilingual digital presence, with content available in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. Online television of Al-Manar is accessible on any device, but its availability may be blocked in certain countries due to legal restrictions. The channel's website was launched in 1997 and includes a video archive of past programs. In Lebanon, the channel holds an audience share of approximately 6.4 percent. The station is a member of the Arab States Broadcasting Union. The channel's General Manager is Ibrahim Farhat, its news director is Ali Hayek, and its program director is Mohammad Cherri. The channel is part of a broader Hezbollah media empire that includes Al-Nour Radio, the Al-Ahed newspaper, and the Al-Manar Foundation for Media Production. With its professional production values and comprehensive coverage, Al-Manar is considered an unprecedented media empire for a non-state terrorist organization.
