OTV (Orange TV) is a Lebanese public television station operating in the news and entertainment format. The primary language of broadcasting is Arabic, with some programming also available in French and Armenian. The channel was founded in 2007 and is associated with the Free Patriotic Movement political party of former Lebanese President General Michel Aoun. The channel is headquartered in Sin el-Fil, Beirut, Lebanon, and its general director is Roy Hachem, the husband of one of Michel Aoun’s daughters. OTV is a public company with 201-500 employees and holds an audience share of 16.4 percent according to 2018 Ipsos data, making it a notable player in the Lebanese media market.
On air, OTV features a wide range of programs, including news bulletins, political talk shows, entertainment programs, cooking shows, and children‘s content. Flagship programs include the daily morning show Yawm Jadid (New Day), the political talk show Hiwar al-Yawm (Dialogue of the Day), and the evening entertainment program Next. In the fall 2024 season, the channel launched several new programs, including the talk show Haki 3al Makchouf (Frank Talk) hosted by Dania Husseini, the comedy show Shadi w Gaby Comedy Show with Shadi Maroun and Gaby Houwayek, and the documentary program Badaa Jaraa (Beginning Boldly) with Mirna Radwan. Other notable presenters on the channel include Pascale Boutros, host of the talk show @ha2akbidak, and Dalia Dagher, a host and producer of socio-political programs.
OTV was originally conceived as a “people‘s channel” where any Lebanese citizen could purchase shares for $10 each (minimum of 10 shares) to finance its launch. The channel began test broadcasting on July 20, 2007, on Arabsat satellite and officially launched in 2008. Its main competitor is Al Jadeed TV. The channel is part of OTV SAL, a joint stock company with a capital of 4.5 million shares valued at $10 per share for a total of $45 million. The channel was founded as the first Lebanese public limited company with the participation of 15,000 small and medium investors, giving it a unique ownership structure in the Lebanese media landscape.
OTV is available via satellite on the Arabsat and Nilesat systems, covering Lebanon, the Arab world, Europe, North America, and Australia.
