OTV (Orange TV) is a Lebanese public television station operating in the news and entertainment format. The primary language of broadcasting is Arabic, with some programming also available in French and Armenian. The channel was founded in 2007 and is associated with the Free Patriotic Movement political party of former Lebanese President General Michel Aoun. The channel is headquartered in Sin el-Fil, Beirut, Lebanon, and its general director is Roy Hachem, the husband of one of Michel Aoun’s daughters. OTV is a public company with 201-500 employees and holds an audience share of 16.4 percent according to 2018 Ipsos data, making it a notable player in the Lebanese media market.

On air, OTV features a wide range of programs, including news bulletins, political talk shows, entertainment programs, cooking shows, and children‘s content. Flagship programs include the daily morning show Yawm Jadid (New Day), the political talk show Hiwar al-Yawm (Dialogue of the Day), and the evening entertainment program Next. In the fall 2024 season, the channel launched several new programs, including the talk show Haki 3al Makchouf (Frank Talk) hosted by Dania Husseini, the comedy show Shadi w Gaby Comedy Show with Shadi Maroun and Gaby Houwayek, and the documentary program Badaa Jaraa (Beginning Boldly) with Mirna Radwan. Other notable presenters on the channel include Pascale Boutros, host of the talk show @ha2akbidak, and Dalia Dagher, a host and producer of socio-political programs.

OTV was originally conceived as a “people‘s channel” where any Lebanese citizen could purchase shares for $10 each (minimum of 10 shares) to finance its launch. The channel began test broadcasting on July 20, 2007, on Arabsat satellite and officially launched in 2008. Its main competitor is Al Jadeed TV. The channel is part of OTV SAL, a joint stock company with a capital of 4.5 million shares valued at $10 per share for a total of $45 million. The channel was founded as the first Lebanese public limited company with the participation of 15,000 small and medium investors, giving it a unique ownership structure in the Lebanese media landscape.

OTV is available via satellite on the Arabsat and Nilesat systems, covering Lebanon, the Arab world, Europe, North America, and Australia. The channel provides a 24-hour live stream through its official website at otv.com.lb and via mobile applications, ensuring that viewers can follow its news and entertainment programming in real time, regardless of their location. The channel also offers a video library with archives of programs and news feeds through its app. For those who want to watch live channel broadcasts, OTV is also available on MTV Lebanon‘s platform, mountingtv.com, and on the official application “My alJadeed,” highlighting the interconnected nature of the Lebanese media landscape.

OTV strives to be a leading independent television channel in Lebanon, promoting modernism, freedom, and democracy through culturally enriching and entertaining programming. The mission of the channel is to serve as an interactive link between Lebanese in Lebanon and the Lebanese diaspora around the world. The channel was built on a principle of loyalty to the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions, with the aim of enhancing freedom, democracy, national unity, and true belonging to Lebanon. Thanks to its satellite distribution and digital platforms, the channel provides the opportunity to watch live channel content, ensuring that its Lebanese news and entertainment programming reaches audiences across the Middle East and around the world wherever they are.

Caught the evening news after work today; the regional updates were useful, and the short cultural feature at the end was a welcome change from nonstop politics.

The Thursday evening documentary slot has become my quiet alternative to cable, especially when the house internet slows down and the picture holds better than expected. From abroad, the Arabic interviews still give me a useful sense of what people are discussing back home.

The local interviews are my favorite part of the lineup. They feel relaxed and personal, even when the news coverage gets a little intense.

I found OTV quickly through the channel list, and the free stream started without any signup. The EPG was a little slow to load once, but the site is otherwise simple to use on my phone.

The morning headlines are sharp, but the debate segments often spend more time on personalities than policy. I still watch the local news for the weather and the practical details that national coverage tends to miss.

The live feed is steady

I like that I can open the site and start watching without signing up. The channel list is easy to browse, and the EPG loaded quickly this time.

The business reports are strongest when they explain what rising prices mean for ordinary households, rather than just listing market figures. I would like more time devoted to practical economic context.

The Armenian-language segments are a nice touch, though I wish they aired more often.

During my last trip abroad, I relied on OTV's evening news and the cultural interviews to keep up with Lebanon. The stream was steadier than the hotel cable, although the picture softened during a slow connection and took a moment to recover.
