Voice of Lebanon (also known as Sawt Loubnan, Voix du Liban, or VDL) is a private radio station in Lebanon operating in the commercial and political talk format . The primary language of broadcasting is Arabic . The station was originally founded by the Lebanese Kataeb Party (Phalange) in 1958 during the Lebanon crisis . It briefly broadcast during that conflict before ceasing operations, only to resume in 1975 at the onset of the Lebanese Civil War, making it the first private, commercial, partisan radio station in the country .
The history of Voice of Lebanon is marked by a complex legal dispute over its name and ownership. In the mid-1990s, the Société Moderne d’Information (owned by the Khazen family) obtained a license to operate a station on 93.3 FM . However, in 2010, the Kataeb Party bought new frequencies (100.3 and 100.5 FM) and announced the relaunch of its own "Voice of Lebanon" station . Consequently, for several years, two rival stations operated simultaneously under the same name and branding .
After a prolonged legal battle, the Lebanese judiciary ruled in favor of the Kataeb Party in 2020, granting it the sole rights to the "Voice of Lebanon" (VDL) trademark . The station owned by the Khazen family was forced to change its name to Voix de Tout le Liban (Voice of All Lebanon or VDTL) and continues to broadcast on the 93.3 FM frequency .
On air, the official Voice of Lebanon station (broadcasting on 100.3 and 100.5 FM) is operated by the Société Nouvelle d‘Information Audiovisuelle SAL . Its content is diverse, ranging from news bulletins (including the 8:00 pm LBCI news) to political, social, economic, cultural, artistic, entertainment, and sports programs . The station also runs medical awareness campaigns. It is currently run by Assaad Maroun, who serves as Chairman and Director-General, with Charbel Maroun acting as Editor-in-Chief . The organization is governed by a board of ten co-owners, including several high-ranking officials of the Kataeb Party, formalizing the party's ownership stake .
Voice of Lebanon is available via FM radio across most of Lebanese territory. It can also be accessed through its website at vdl.me and via the VDL 24 mobile application for Android devices, which allows listeners to listen online to the live broadcast on any device . The station maintains a studio on Alfred Naccache Street in the Achrafieh district of Beirut .
Voice of Lebanon re-established its presence as a broadcasting institution associated with the Kataeb Party, carrying the slogan “Voice of Freedom and Dignity” (صوت الحرية والكرامة) . Its mission is to deliver trusted, high-quality content covering news, culture, art, and entertainment to listeners throughout Lebanon and the diaspora. After a ten-year legal struggle to reclaim the name, the station continues to operate as the legal Voice of Lebanon .
