Smithsonian HD Network přináší dokumentární a faktografické pořady čerpající z archivů a výzkumu této instituce. Stanice se zaměřuje na americké dějiny, přírodní vědy, průzkum vesmíru a kulturní dědictví, často s využitím archivních záběrů a komentářů odborníků. Programy pokrývají témata jako vojenská technika, paleontologie, letectví a životy amerických prezidentů. Obsah je produkován ve vysokém rozlišení a během mnoha dokumentárních bloků se vyhýbá komerčním přestávkám.
