WIPR online television

WIPR-TV, known as WIPR Televisión and branded as Puerto Rico TV, is the public television station of Puerto Rico and a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) . The station is owned by the Government of Puerto Rico and operated by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (Corporación de Puerto Rico para la Difusión Pública - CPRDP), which also manages the radio stations WIPR 940 AM and Allegro 91.3 FM . WIPR-TV holds historical significance as the first educational television station in Latin America and the third in the United States, having first aired on January 6, 1958, from its studios located at 570 Hostos Avenue in Hato Rey, San Juan . Its transmitter is located at Cerro La Santa in Cayey, with a full-time satellite station, WIPM-TV (channel 3), in Mayagüez extending coverage to the western part of the island . As a dedicated source for online television, the station operates under the leadership of President Luis A. Rodríguez Díaz, with a mission to provide educational, informative, and entertaining content of world-class production quality that reflects Puerto Rican culture .

The programming schedule allows viewers to watch live channel coverage of a general format that primarily consists of locally produced content, as the station invests membership dues previously paid to PBS into local programming . The station broadcasts a mix of cultural shows, documentaries, public affairs programs, and entertainment. Key local productions include the morning show Un Buen Día, hosted by Rafael José, Linnette Torres, and Anoushka Medina, which combines interviews, live music, educational segments, cultural capsules, and trending topics . The station’s flagship news program is Notiseis 360. The station operates three digital subchannels: channel 6.1 for the main WIPR TV programming, channel 6.2 for Deportes 940AM, and channel 6.3 for Kids TV Puerto Rico . In 2024 and 2025, WIPR has announced major modernization projects, including the construction of a new 750-foot communications tower in Cayey as part of a federal assignment from the FCC exceeding five million dollars, aimed at significantly expanding signal coverage and capacity to serve as a transmission hub for multiple state and federal emergency agencies, including the National Weather Service, FEMA, FBI, Homeland Security, and the Coast Guard .

For audiences seeking a reliable live stream of Puerto Rican public television content, WIPR-TV is widely available as a free-to-air service via digital terrestrial television on virtual channel 6.1, transmitting in 1080i High Definition format on UHF digital channel 26 . In the western part of the island, the station operates a satellite, WIPM-TV (channel 3.1), broadcasting from a transmitter at Monte del Estado in Maricao . The channel is accessible as tv online via its official website wipr.pr, which provides live streaming, as well as through its presence on social media and a mobile application . Additionally, through a strategic partnership with Wapa Media announced in September 2025, a selection of WIPR programming, including Un Buen Día, is distributed to the Puerto Rican diaspora in the continental United States via the FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channel Wapa+, available on platforms including The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, Fire TV Channels, fubo, ViX, Plex, and Now TV Latino . This partnership ensures that the station`s educational, cultural, and entertainment programming reaches Puerto Rican audiences across the island, the mainland United States, and international viewers .
