PBS KET Louisville KY online television

PBS KET Louisville KY is the public television service for the Louisville metropolitan area, operated by Kentucky Educational Television (KET), a statewide public broadcasting network owned by the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television, an agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Louisville is served by two primary stations: WKPC-TV (channel 15) and WKMJ-TV (channel 68). WKPC-TV first signed on the air on September 5, 1958, as WFPK-TV, becoming a member of National Educational Television (NET) before joining PBS upon its launch in 1970. In 1997, WKPC-TV was acquired by KET and became the primary KET station for the Louisville area, replacing WKMJ-TV which had served as KET`s local relay since 1970. WKMJ-TV, now the flagship station for KET2, signed on August 31, 1970, and its call sign stands for Kentucky Media and Journalism.

Both stations` transmitters are located at the Kentuckiana Tower Farm at Floyds Knobs in Floyd County, Indiana, making them the only KET-owned stations whose transmitters are outside Kentucky`s borders. The stations` master control and internal operations are located at KET`s main studios at the O. Leonard Press Telecommunications Center in Lexington, Kentucky. As a dedicated source for online television, the Louisville KET stations carry the full range of KET`s four digital channels: KET (channel 15.1) features PBS`s main schedule with prime time drama, documentaries, and news programming; KET2 (channel 68.1) broadcasts the PBS Satellite Service with how-to programs, encore presentations, and public affairs shows; KET KY (channel 15.2) focuses on Kentucky-focused programming; and KET PBS KIDS (channel 15.3) provides educational children`s content 24 hours a day.

The programming schedule allows viewers to watch live channel coverage of a wide range of locally focused public affairs and lifestyle programming. The weekly program Inside Louisville is hosted by Kelsey Starks, a former WHAS (ABC) anchor, featuring conversations with Louisville`s newsmakers and personalities, celebrating the people, places, and traditions that make the River City a vibrant and diverse community. Recent episodes have included The Business of Butchertown with Andy Blieden, exploring the resurgence of Louisville`s historic Butchertown neighborhood; Inside the Kentucky Air National Guard, featuring Louisville-based units including the Contingency Response Group and Special Tactics Squadron; and Meet Jefferson County Clerk, David Yates, discussing nonpartisan elections and the Clerk`s Office role in preserving city history. Other local programs airing on KET from the Louisville stations include Kentucky Life, highlighting people and places across the Commonwealth (including segments on Louisville`s disco ball manufacturing history and Actors Theatre of Louisville); Inside One Louisville, covering the merger of GLI and LEDA into One Louisville economic development organization; and Inside the Muhammad Ali Center with DeVone Holt, featuring the new CEO discussing his vision for the iconic Louisville institution.

Additional KET programming available to Louisville viewers includes Comment on Kentucky, the network`s longest-running public affairs program hosted by Bill Bryant with journalists discussing the week`s top news stories; Kentucky Tonight, hosted by Renee Shaw featuring expert panels on issues facing the Commonwealth; Giving Back with Dawne Gee, featuring the WAVE3 news anchor discussing her fight against hunger and receiving the Muhammad Ali Kentucky Humanitarian Award; and the annual Inside Louisville's Bradley Awards, honoring the best in high school musical theater across Kentucky with a direct pipeline to the national Jimmy Awards in New York City.

For audiences seeking a reliable live stream, PBS KET Louisville is widely available as a free-to-air service via digital terrestrial television on WKPC-TV channel 15.1 (UHF digital channel 17) and WKMJ-TV channel 68.1 (UHF digital channel 38). The stations are carried on major cable providers serving the Louisville metropolitan area, including Spectrum and AT&T U-verse. The channel is accessible as tv online via the official KET website at ket.org, which provides live streaming of all four KET channels, as well as through the PBS Video App. The stations broadcast from a transmitter height of 266 meters (WKPC) and 257 meters (WKMJ) with effective radiated power of 58 kW and 40 kW respectively, covering Louisville, Jefferson County, and surrounding areas in Kentucky and Indiana. KET is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and has been serving Louisville viewers for over 65 years, providing educational, cultural, and public affairs programming to the community.
