TV Passo Fundo refers to two distinct television channels in the Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul: one is the local affiliate of the national TV Globo network, and the other is an independent cable channel focused on local production.
RBS TV Passo Fundo (TV Globo Affiliate) is the local broadcaster serving as the official affiliate of Rede Globo for the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul. The station was founded on May 28, 1980, originally under the name TV Umbu before adopting its current name in 1983. It is owned and operated by Grupo RBS, the largest media group in southern Brazil. The station broadcasts on digital UHF channel 34 (virtual channel 7.1) in high definition 1080i and transmits from a transmitter located at coordinates 28° 14′ 54″ S, 52° 22′ 54.7″ W with a power of 5 kW. The station's slogan is "Bem pra ti" (Good for you).
On air, RBS TV Passo Fundo broadcasts the full national programming of Rede Globo, which includes globally recognized telenovelas, entertainment shows such as Fantástico and Domingão com Huck, and the daily national news programs Bom Dia Brasil, Jornal Hoje, and Jornal Nacional. In addition to the national feed, the station produces local news inserts for the region. The flagship local program is the regional edition of Globo's Jornal do Almoço (Lunch News), which is presented by Mateus Rodighero and features 20 minutes of local news divided into two blocks. The station's telejournalism operations have a network of coverage teams based in five cities: Cruz Alta, Erechim, Ijuí, Passo Fundo, and Santa Rosa, forming a large coverage network in the northern and northwestern regions of the state. This coverage reaches approximately 2 million potential viewers across 220 municipalities. On March 24, 2012, RBS TV Passo Fundo became the first broadcaster in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul to transmit programming in high definition.
TV Passo Fundo (Independent Cable Channel) is an independent cable television channel founded in November 1998. It holds the distinction of being the oldest closed (subscription) television channel in Passo Fundo and in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. The channel's logo features a cuia de chimarrão (traditional mate gourd) in honor of regional traditions. The channel is headquartered at Rua Morom, 1162, in the Petrópolis neighborhood of Passo Fundo.
On air, this TV Passo Fundo produces 24 hours of daily programming for closed channels and social media. The channel's programming spans a wide range of segments, including sports, religious, social, political, health, music, travel, agribusiness, and coverage of social and corporate events. The channel's longest-running sports program, originally called Esportes no 20 (referring to its original channel number on NET cable), was produced by journalist Antonio Augusto Meirelles Duarte for over a decade. After Meirelles Duarte's death and the channel's move to a new frequency, the program was renamed Esportes no 26 and is currently presented by communicator Jorge Antonio Gerhardt.
The channel also provides fixed commercial spaces for independent producers to create daily programs of 27 or 57 minutes, where clients can promote their companies and products, all presented by journalists, reporters, and protocol experts. The channel broadcasts live events, inaugurations, and lectures on its cable channel and via social networks. The studio is equipped with cameras and modern equipment. The channel's mission is to offer quality information with depth, impartiality, and the intelligence to show what Passo Fundo and the region have best.
This independent TV Passo Fundo is available on cable channels 26 and 526 (HD) on the Claro/NET system in Passo Fundo. The channel is also broadcast on Coprel TV, reaching more than 40 municipalities in the region, and on the MaxCloud TV network, which has more than 120,000 subscribers across Brazil. Viewers can watch online the live broadcast of TV Passo Fundo through its official mobile application, available for Android and iOS devices, as well as through its website. The channel's programming is also distributed via social media platforms.
It is important to note that TV Câmara Passo Fundo is a separate entity, created as an audiovisual streaming mechanism that broadcasts films, series, documentaries, and TV programs. It is developed by a different developer (Daniel C. de Assis) and is unrelated to either RBS TV Passo Fundo or the private independent TV Passo Fundo channel.
