TRT (Televisora Regional del Táchira) is a Venezuelan private regional television network operating in the generalist format. The primary language of broadcasting is Spanish. The channel was founded in March 1984 and began its regular broadcasts on November 24, 1989, making it the first regional television station in the Venezuelan province . TRT is based in San Cristóbal, Táchira state, Venezuela, and broadcasts on channel six . The channel's slogan is "Siempre Contigo" . The network is privately owned by Televisora Regional del Táchira, S.A., with José Avendaño serving as president .
On air, TRT features a mix of news, sports, entertainment, and cultural programming with a focus on the Táchira region and the Venezuelan Andes. The channel has produced several emblematic programs over its history, including news coverage of the Feria Internacional de San Sebastián from the Plaza Monumental de Pueblo Nuevo, and has broadcast international telenovelas from Colombia and Brazil . TRT has also been recognized for its support of sports, particularly football, and its projection of local cultural values, customs, gastronomy, and folklore . The news operation has been a cornerstone of the channel's programming, maintaining audience preference throughout its history .
TRT is available via open signal in Táchira on channel 6 VHF, as well as in southern Zulia, northeastern Barinas, and northern Apure in Venezuela . The channel's signal also reaches into Colombia, covering the Norte de Santander Department and northern Arauca Department, making it a binational reference for regional communication . The channel is also available on cable and satellite, including on Inter Canal (channel 10), DirecTV (channel 119), and Inter (channel 19) .
In August 2025, TRT announced a partial closure of its operations due to economic difficulties, resulting in the dismissal of nine workers and the cessation of its live news broadcasts . Since then, the channel has continued transmitting only pre-recorded programs and independent productions . Following these events, the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Prensa (SNTP) warned that the measure affects citizens' right to information, freedom of expression, and the right to work of the affected employees .
