The primary language of broadcasting is Finnish, with English-language programs typically broadcast in their original language with Finnish subtitles . The channel was originally launched on December 18, 2009, under the name SuomiTV. It was acquired by Fox Networks Group in January 2012 and relaunched as FOX on April 16, 2012 . On January 6, 2023, the channel was rebranded to its current name, STAR Channel, as part of a global rebranding effort by Disney following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox assets .

On air, STAR Channel broadcasts a mix of international drama series, comedy series, films, documentaries, lifestyle programs, and selected local productions . The channel's programming includes notable international series such as The Walking Dead, Criminal Minds, The Big Bang Theory (titled Rillit huurussa in Finnish), Family Guy, and 9-1-1: Lone Star . The channel also broadcasts feature films, with audience data from August 2025 showing that movies like Hell or High Water, Yölento (Red Eye), and Kill the Irishman were among the most-viewed programs on the channel .
