RTV (Regionalfernsehen OÖ) is an Austrian private television channel operating in the regional news and information format. The primary language of broadcasting is German. The channel was founded in 1992 by Christian Schott, who began by distributing regional sports reports to local electronics retailers in Garsten, Upper Austria . RTV is based in Garsten, Upper Austria, and has its origins as the first private regional broadcaster in the country, initially operating despite the then-existing ORF broadcasting monopoly . After legal challenges, the channel obtained legal status following the Cable Broadcasting Act of 1997 and the Private Television Act of 2001, which allowed terrestrial broadcasts .

On air, RTV’s programming originally consisted of classic regional reports, cultural segments, local sports, and community news covering society, customs, arts, and the economy . However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the channel shifted its focus heavily towards political talk shows and critical coverage of pandemic measures . Current programming is dominated by news and talk formats covering topics such as migration, climate change, and the Ukraine conflict, often presented from a right-wing populist perspective sympathetic to the FPÖ and MFG parties . The channel previously aired a talk show called RTV Talk, which featured guests critical of government policies .

The channel is available via the LIWEST cable network and local cable operators in the Enns, Steyr, and Krems valleys . It also broadcasts terrestrially via DVB-T2 on the simpliTV platform in most of Upper Austria and parts of Lower Austria . Additionally, the channel provides a 24/7 live stream on its official website, rtvdigital.at, making it accessible worldwide . The managing director of the station is Christian Schott .
