PBS KET KY (Kentucky Educational Television) is a state-wide network of PBS member television stations serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky, United States. The network is owned and operated by the Kentucky Authority for Educational Television, an agency of the Kentucky state government, and was launched on September 23, 1968. KET is the largest PBS state network in the United States, with broadcast signals from its sixteen stations covering almost all of Kentucky, as well as parts of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The network's headquarters, network center and primary studio facilities are located at the O. Leonard Press Telecommunications Center on Cooper Drive in Lexington, Kentucky, with additional production centers in Louisville and at the Kentucky State Capitol Annex in Frankfort. As a dedicated source for online television, KET carries national programming from PBS along with a wide range of local programming, basic skills and workplace education. The network is branded on-air as KET: The Kentucky Network.
The network operates multiple channels and produces a strong lineup of locally focused public affairs and news programming. The flagship evening news program is Kentucky Edition, hosted by Renee Shaw, a 2024 Ohio Valley Chapter Regional Emmy Award-nominated program that airs weeknights at 6:30 PM ET on KET and at 11:00 PM ET on KET2. The half-hour program summarizes major developments across the Commonwealth and highlights Kentucky's people, places and happenings, covering topics from education, the economy, agriculture, healthcare, business, and the arts. Another key public affairs program is Kentucky Tonight, also hosted by Renee Shaw, which brings together expert panels for in-depth analysis of major issues facing the Commonwealth. The program has been on the air for nearly three decades, airing Mondays at 8:00 PM ET, and viewers are encouraged to participate by submitting questions via email (kytonight@ket.org) or by calling 800-494-7605 during the broadcast. Comment on Kentucky is KET's longest-running public affairs program, hosted by Bill Bryant, featuring journalists from across the Commonwealth for in-depth discussions about the week's biggest news stories. The program airs Fridays at 8:00 PM ET on KET and repeats on KET2 and KETKY throughout the weekend. Panelists have included Phillip Bailey (USA Today), Sylvia Goodman (Kentucky Public Radio), and Sarah Ladd (Kentucky Lantern). Additional local productions include Kentucky Life, highlighting the people and places of Kentucky; Kentucky Afield, a program focused on fishing, hunting and wildlife recreation hosted by Chad Miles; and Celebrating Kentucky.
The network also produces special programming during election seasons. In May 2026, KET aired Candidate Conversations, hosted by Renee Shaw, featuring one-on-one interviews with candidates for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives districts, including an episode with U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, Republican candidate in the 4th Congressional District. KET has hosted numerous political debates and candidate forums over the years. The KET network includes several digital subchannels: the main KET channel (xx.1) carries PBS programming; KET2 (xx.2) carries PBS Encore; and the Kentucky Channel / KET ED (xx.3) carries the Kentucky Channel and educational programming. KET ED was a digital television programming service operated by KET that provided programming from the Annenberg/CPB project, along with encore presentations of PBS programming and much of KET's locally produced in-house instructional television productions.
