The station was founded on December 15, 1952, and first signed on the air on December 11, 1953, as the first television station in Austin. It is owned by the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of Fox Corporation, and its studios are located at 908 West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the University of Texas at Austin campus, with its transmitter located in the West Lake Hills area of Austin.
