The station was founded on August 1, 1953, as KVAR-TV, and first signed on the air on October 15, 1953, as KOOL-TV. It is owned by the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of Fox Corporation, and its studios are located at 511 West Adams Street in downtown Phoenix, with its transmitter located on South Mountain in Phoenix. As a dedicated source for online television, the station uses the on-air branding FOX 10 Phoenix and was one of Fox's original six owned-and-operated stations when the network launched in October 1986.
