AFTV online television

AFTV is the public access television channel of Framingham, Massachusetts, run by the Framingham Public Access Corporation, a non-profit designated by the city and doing business as Access Framingham Television. Its stated mission is to engage, serve and enrich the community by developing programming made by and for the people of Framingham, and the same organisation also manages the Framingham Education Channel and The Frame, the local news initiative. For around two decades the station has been the city's media commons: funded by cable access revenue rather than by taxpayers or advertisers, it answers to the community it trains.

The schedule is local first. The Frame, the news strand hosted by news supervisor Brendan Fitzpatrick, covers the city in English and in Portuguese for Framingham's large Brazilian community, and around it sit AFTV Conversations, Frame by Frame, school committee meetings and town events. Anyone who lives, works or studies in Framingham can become a member: take a class, borrow field equipment, produce a show of their own and have it cablecast. On cable the channel sits at Comcast 9, Verizon 42 and Astound/RCN 3, and the same signal streams on the station's website.

Watching costs nothing and needs no subscription, so anyone can watch live at any hour.
