ACC Network is an American television channel operating in the sports format. The primary language of broadcasting is English. The channel is dedicated exclusively to coverage of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and its member universities. The channel was announced in July 2016 and launched on August 22, 2019. It is owned and operated by ESPN, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company (72 percent), with additional ownership from Hearst Communications (18 percent) and the National Football League (10 percent). The channel operates from ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, though some programming and staff are based in Charlotte, North Carolina. This service is offered as an online television platform for cable subscribers through the ESPN app and website.
On air, the ACC Network features a wide variety of live sports events, including football, men‘s and women’s basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and Olympic sports. The channel is expected to carry approximately 1,300 events per year, featuring all 15 member institutions of the ACC: Boston College, California, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame (partial member), Pittsburgh, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Flagship studio programs include Packer and Durham, a morning show simulcast on ACCN and SiriusXM, hosted by Mark Packer and Wes Durham. Other regular programming includes All ACC, the network‘s general news program, and The Huddle, which airs on Friday nights and Saturday mornings during football season. The network’s launch night programming included the ESPN Films documentary The Class That Saved Coach K, which chronicled Mike Krzyzewski's turnaround of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team in the 1980s. For those who want to watch live channel broadcasts, the schedule is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of ACC athletics throughout the academic year.
The channel‘s digital platform, ACC Network Extra (ACCNX), carries ACC events not broadcast on the linear television channel. ACCNX streams on ESPN+, as well as on ESPN.com and the ESPN app for ACC Network subscribers. Each ACC school constructed production facilities to contribute programming to the channel. The ACC also expanded its conference schedule in college basketball to 20 games to provide more content for the channel. Major rivalry games broadcast on the network include the Backyard Brawl between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the West Virginia University Mountaineers. The channel’s first football game aired on August 29, 2019, with the defending national champion Clemson Tigers hosting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
ACC Network is available throughout the United States via cable, satellite, and streaming providers. The channel is carried on major providers including DirecTV, Dish Network, Charter Spectrum, Cox Communications, Verizon Fios, and Xfinity (Comcast). The channel is also available on live television streaming services including Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, Sling TV, and FuboTV. The channel broadcasts in 720p high definition (HDTV). The network provides a live stream through the ESPN app and website, but requires authentication from a participating pay television provider.
ACC Network strives to be the definitive television home for Atlantic Coast Conference sports, providing comprehensive coverage of over 1,300 live events, original programming, and in-depth analysis of its member institutions. The mission of the channel is to serve ACC fans across the country by delivering high-quality sports broadcasts, studio shows, and digital content that celebrates the tradition and excellence of the conference. Thanks to its wide distribution on cable, satellite, and streaming platforms, the channel provides the opportunity to watch live channel content, ensuring that ACC sports fans across the United States and around the world can access their favorite teams‘ games wherever they are. The ACC and ESPN signed a 20-year contract extension in July 2016, securing the channel’s long-term future and the conference’s media rights through the 2026-2027 season.
