CBS 4 El Paso TX online television

KDBC CBS 4 is the CBS station for El Paso, Texas, and the first television channel to sign on in that city. Sinclair Broadcast Group owns it alongside Fox affiliate KFOX-TV, and the two share one Borderland newsroom. Virtual channel 4.1 carries CBS, and My 4.2 carries MyNetworkTV. Those letters point to Doubleday Broadcasting Company. Early local shows included a Bozo the Clown hosted by Howell Eurich, and Martin Haines moved from a cartoon shift to the news desk. Newscasts later used the names Channel 4 News and Action 4 News. The newsroom once led the market under Portal Communications, slipped in the Imes years, and returned to a shared desk with KFOX-TV under Sinclair. It still covers El Paso and Las Cruces.

The evening newscast gives local business stories more room than most stations do, which I appreciate. The election reports are clear too, although the debate clips sometimes feel edited too tightly.

I caught the Saturday night college football game here while traveling, and the picture stayed sharp even when the hotel Wi-Fi slowed down. The local breaks were useful, though the audio levels jumped a bit between the game and commercials compared with cable.
