Canal Educativo 2 online television
Canal Educativo 2 is a Cuban free-to-air television channel that currently operates as a repeater for the pan-Latin American network teleSUR. The primary language of broadcasting is Spanish. The channel was created on April 18, 2004, by the Cuban government under the direction of Fidel Castro as a sister channel to the original Canal Educativo, with the goal of providing cultural and general educational programming for a broad audience . Its original slogan was "Por los caminos del saber" (Through the paths of knowledge) . The channel is owned by the Cuban Radio and Television Institute (ICRT) .
During its early years, the channel produced a variety of general-interest formats including cultural magazines, film programs, music shows, and documentaries. One of its most iconic programs was the magazine show De tarde en casa (At Home in the Afternoon), hosted by a presenter who became closely identified with the channel . Other notable programs produced by CE2 included Detrás de la Leyenda (Behind the Legend), Vivir 120 (Live 120), Cine flash (Flash Cinema), the educational series Coleccionado (Collected), and the interactive program Sácame del apuro (Get Me Out of Trouble) . Presenter Laritza Camacho was the announcer for the channel during its programming blocks .
Since January 14, 2014, the channel has dramatically reduced its original programming to share its frequency with the Venezuelan-based network teleSUR . Currently, teleSUR programming occupies the vast majority of the broadcast day. On digital terrestrial television (TDT), teleSUR broadcasts 24 hours a day on the CE2 frequency, while on the remaining analog signal, teleSUR airs for 12 hours, leaving a limited window for local Cuban content .
Despite this reduced schedule, CE2 continues to produce some original content. Its programming is currently limited to a window in the late afternoon and evening, generally from approximately 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM . Programs produced by the channel that may still appear during this window include the flagship magazine De tarde en casa, which remains a staple of the schedule, along with other productions such as Arte y Corte (Art and Edit), Plan TV, Así me ves (That‘s How You See Me), and the documentary series Conexión Cuba (Cuba Connection) covering technology and computerization .
The channel has undergone significant modernization, becoming the first television station in Cuba to fully produce and broadcast in digital format, a transition completed in January 2017 through the innovation of the station's own technical staff . The channel is headquartered at Calle P between 23 and Humboldt in El Vedado, Havana .
Canal Educativo 2 strives to fulfill the original mission of providing access to educational and cultural content for the Cuban people. However, in its current state, it primarily serves as the Cuban outlet for teleSUR programming, with a small window remaining for its own productions. The station is part of the Cuban Television system and, together with its sister station Canal Educativo, was among the last channels to transition from analog to digital broadcasting, completing this process in late 2021 .
