Canal 1 is a Costa Rican free-to-air television channel operating in the generalist and news format. The primary language of broadcasting is Spanish. The channel was launched on March 15, 2023, under the leadership of president Jorge "Koke" Abarca . The channel is based in Sabana Sur, near the Contraloría General de la República in San José, Costa Rica . Canal 1 broadcasts on digital terrestrial television on frequency 1.1, and is also available on major cable operators including Liberty, Tigo, Telecable, Metrocom, Roku, and other providers .

On air, Canal 1 features a mix of news programming, entertainment shows, humor, and motivational content. The flagship news program is Primero Noticias, a nightly newscast airing Monday through Friday at 9:00 PM in prime time, directed and presented by journalist Pablo Cartín . In November 2025, Canal 1 announced it would cease broadcasting on open television due to the frequency auction conducted by Sutel (Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones), stating that the auction prices made continued operation on open television "materially impossible" . Following this decision, the channel has focused on other business models, including cable distribution and digital platforms .
