Bukedde TV 1 online television
Bukedde TV 1 is a Ugandan channel broadcasting in Luganda from Kampala, one arm of a much older brand. The name itself translates as Morning Has Come. The brand began as a newspaper in 1994, first a weekly in two languages and then, from September of that year, a daily; it became the country's largest-circulating paper, with 33 289 copies a day reported in 2020. The television arm launched in October 2009, alongside a sister radio station on 100.5, both transmitting mainly in Luganda. The publisher is a group owned by the Ugandan state with institutional and private investors, which also runs the leading English daily and titles in three other local languages.
It describes itself as a daily dose of real-life Uganda told in the language that feels like home - a neighbour's voice, an aunt's advice, a mirror of the community. Its words put the range from the busy streets of the capital to the quiet corners of the countryside, with drama, culture and lifestyle alongside sport. The line follows the paper: the only Ugandan title with a section on the ruler of Buganda and the royal household, and its best-known pages are a crime column, an advice column and an entertainment page. In 2021 a fake front page circulated online and the group rebutted it through its verified account.
The archive is enormous: opened 23 June 2011, it holds 115 501 videos and 482 187 644 views, about 4 175 per item, with 947 thousand followers and the country given as Uganda. The live feed offers two rungs, 1920x1080 at an average of 3 450 000 bits per second and 426x240 at 650 000, both at 25 frames, with six-second segments carrying wall-clock stamps and no subtitles.
