Germany Germany

NDR is the public broadcasting service for northern Germany, covering the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and parts of Bremen. Its television output focuses heavily on regional news and current affairs, with daily magazines that report on local politics, culture, and community events across the north. Documentaries and factual programming often explore the coastal landscape, the North and Baltic Seas, and the region’s maritime heritage. Cultural coverage includes classical music concerts from the NDR orchestras, theater productions, and arts features. Entertainment programming tends toward talk shows, crime series produced in-house, and light-hearted magazine formats. Sports coverage concentrates on regional teams and events, including football matches from the lower leagues and handball.

In addition to its main channel, NDR contributes content to the national public broadcaster Das Erste and operates regional digital channels. Much of its programming is available on demand through the ARD Mediathek, where viewers can catch up on recent broadcasts or stream live television. The channel also provides a dedicated children’s block in the morning hours, with educational and animated content. TV guide listings for NDR are published weekly in print and online, with schedules that vary slightly
