NHK World TV
Portugal
NHK World TV is the English-language international service of Japan’s public broadcaster, available in Portugal through various cable and satellite platforms. Its programming centers on news coverage from an Asian perspective, with regular updates on Japanese politics, business, and technology. Documentaries explore Japanese culture, history, and natural landscapes, while lifestyle segments cover topics like traditional crafts, cuisine, and contemporary design. The channel also airs coverage of major events such as the Tokyo Marathon or seasonal festivals, along with occasional music performances and educational content about the Japanese language. Sports programming is limited but includes highlights from sumo tournaments and other domestic competitions.
Viewers in Portugal can access NHK World TV through their local TV provider’s channel list, where it appears as a dedicated 24-hour feed. The channel also offers a live stream on its official website and mobile app, which includes on-demand access to recent programs and archived documentaries. Electronic program guides in Portugal typically list the channel under international news or documentary categories, with schedules aligned to Japan Standard Time but adjusted for local viewing hours. No Portuguese-language subtitles or dubbing are provided, as the service operates entirely in English.
