BBC Four/CBeebies online television

BBC Four/CBeebies is the most charming timeshare in television: one frequency, two worlds. By day it belongs to CBeebies, the BBC's beloved pre-school channel — songs, stories and gentle learning for the smallest viewers. When evening comes and the little ones are in bed, the same channel hands over to BBC Four, and the screen turns to arts, documentaries and grown-up quiet. It is the story of the British broadcast day written into a single channel number — a habit older than many of its viewers, and loved on both sides of bedtime.

The daylight hours carry CBeebies' pre-school favorites: songs and rhymes, animated friends, crafts and first numbers, all made with the BBC's famous care for young minds. Then, at the evening handover, the mood shifts completely: Storyville documentaries, the science of Horizon, classical music from the Proms, world cinema and the deep drama of the BBC archive — television for after bedtime. The arrangement is one of the oldest and most loved quirks of British broadcasting.

For families, it is the channel that grows up with the household: toddlers at breakfast, parents at night.
