BBC Four HD live stream

BBC Four HD online television

BBC Four HD is the BBC's channel for the curious: the home of arts, culture, documentary and the gloriously unfashionable corners of knowledge. Since 2002 it has been the evening refuge of viewers who want their television slower, deeper and smarter — the channel where a ninety-minute film about medieval maps is a normal Tuesday and nobody apologizes for it. It is the smallest of the BBC's main channels and the proudest, and its audience would riot if it ever changed.

The schedule is a cabinet of documentaries, arts and quiet experiments: the Storyville documentary strand, the science of Horizon, the social history of Timeshift, live classical music from the Proms and the BBC Young Musician competition, world cinema with subtitles unashamed, and the channel's famous slow-TV specials — a barge drifting down a canal in real time, a sleigh ride through the Arctic, watched by millions in perfect silence. Classic drama from the BBC archive rounds out the nights, every single week of the year.

For viewers who believe television can still be a university with better lighting, this is the frequency.
