Azerbaijan Gharbi live stream

Azerbaijan Gharbi online television

Azerbaijan Gharbi, in Persian شبکه آذربایجان غربی and known on air as Urmia TV, is the provincial television channel of West Azerbaijan in north-western Iran, part of the national broadcaster IRIB and based in Urmia on the shore of the great salt lake. The province it serves is one of the most mixed in the country, home to Azeris, Kurds and others, and the channel answers that variety by broadcasting in Persian and Azerbaijani Turkish, with the communities of the lake basin each hearing their own voice.

The grid follows the life of the province: national and local news, programmes about the farmers of the lake basin and the orchard country, coverage of the towns from Khoy to Mahabad and Salmas, and cultural programming that carries the music and poetry of both traditions. The condition of Lake Urmia itself, its shrinkage and the fight for its recovery, is a recurring subject, as close to the channel's heart as to the province's.

For the people of West Azerbaijan and for those who have moved away, the channel is the voice of the lake country.
