Universidad Autónoma Temuco online television
Universidad Autónoma de Chile Televisión (UATV) is a Chilean regional university television channel operating in the news and general entertainment format. The primary language of broadcasting is Spanish. The channel is owned by the Universidad Autónoma de Chile and is based in Temuco, in the La Araucanía Region. UATV began its official transmissions on December 16, 2001, under the name “Canal 2 Temuco“. It later rebranded to Autónoma Televisión (in 2004) and finally to Universidad Autónoma de Chile Televisión (UATV) around the end of 2008.
On air, UATV features a mix of local news bulletins, a morning show, health programs, music videos, and cultural content. The flagship morning program is “Nuestra Gente: El matinal del sur“, hosted by journalist “Natalia Farías Toro“. The channel produces four daily editions of “UATV Noticias“ plus a weekend summary, covering the most important events in the region and the country, including current affairs interviews. Other regular programs include “Doctor en casa“ (a health and wellness show), “Portavoz Noticias“, “Video-Música“ (a music video program running since the channel's launch), “Conciertos TMT“, and special segments from the Fundación del Magisterio de la Araucanía such as “Perfiles“ and “Ventana FMDA“.
In November 2008, UATV and CNN Chile signed an alliance as "associated channels," allowing them to exchange daily notes, reports, and interviews, informing the nation about events in La Araucanía while also including national relevance information in UATV's local newscasts. The channel provides special television coverage for national plebiscites and other significant political events.
UATV is available as a digital terrestrial channel in the La Araucanía Region (specifically in Temuco and Padre Las Casas) and is also carried on cable operators such as VTR on channel 13. Its coverage extends through various cable providers from Arica to Coyhaique via Cable Prat, Gtd, and Gtd-Telsur WiTV.
UATV strives to be a key regional media outlet, providing coverage of local news, cultural events, and community stories for the La Araucanía Region. The mission of the channel is to offer a platform for regional voices, inform citizens about events affecting their daily lives, and highlight the unique identity and concerns of southern Chile. Thanks to modern digital platforms and cable distribution, UATV provides the opportunity to watch its programming across the region and online, ensuring that viewers in La Araucanía and former residents living elsewhere in Chile or abroad can stay connected to their home region wherever they are.
