The channel was founded on February 20, 1993, as the fourth terrestrial television channel in Portugal and the second private channel after SIC . TVI is owned by Media Capital, a major Portuguese media conglomerate, and is headquartered in Queluz de Baixo, Oeiras, Lisbon . The channel has been the audience leader in Portugal since 2005 .
