The channel was founded by Dinç Bilgin and began broadcasting on July 12, 1993, under the name Aktüel Televizyonu. Throughout its history, the channel has changed ownership several times, including periods under Ciner Medya Grubu, the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund, Turkuvaz Media Group, and since 2013, it has been owned by the Kalyon Group construction conglomerate. The channel's headquarters are located in Istanbul, in the Beşiktaş district. ATV is one of the most popular and highest-rated television channels in Turkey, known primarily for its drama series, which are exported to more than 60 countries worldwide. The general manager of the channel is Ali Türkarslan.
