TRT Kurdî also operates a radio service, TRT Kurdî Radyo, which broadcasts Kurdish-language programming alongside the television channel. The channel was established following the lifting of the ban on the Kurdish language in Turkey in 2001 and the removal of legal barriers to broadcasting in Kurdish in 2002. In 2004, new regulations allowed TRT to broadcast limited Kurdish content, and these limitations were later removed, leading to the launch of the 24-hour channel. An unofficial aim of the channel was to reduce the influence of Roj TV, which was regarded as the main broadcast channel of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
TRT Kurdî strives to promote Turkey's cultural diversity and to showcase the richness of Kurdish culture and language to a global audience. The mission of the channel is to serve as a bridge between Turkey and the Kurdish-speaking world, offering high-quality programming that reflects the traditions, music, and daily life of Kurdish communities. As part of the TRT network, which includes channels such as TRT 1, TRT Haber, TRT World, TRT Avaz, and TRT Arabi, TRT Kurdî plays a key role in Turkey's public service broadcasting mission. Thanks to its wide distribution across satellite, cable, and online platforms, TRT Kurdî provides the opportunity to watch its live broadcast on any device, ensuring that its Kurdish-language news, cultural, and entertainment programming reaches audiences across Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and the world wherever they are.
