Sky News Weather is an Australian free-to-air television channel operating in the 24-hour weather news and information format. The primary language of broadcasting is English. The channel is owned and operated by Australian News Channel, a subsidiary of News Corp Australia, and is headquartered in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The channel was launched on 1 January 1999 under the name Weather 21, positioned on channel 21 of the Austar television lineup serving regional and rural Australia. Weather 21 was established by Cox Inall Communications and The Weather Company, a meteorological firm, and was originally owned by Austar. The programming was specifically pitched to Austar's largely rural and regional audience, with initial presenters including Allan Humphries, Lyndal Davies, and meteorologist Mark Hardy broadcasting live from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, while overnight programming consisted of an automated loop of forecasts, satellite imagery, and radar accompanied by music .

In early 2000, the channel was renamed The Weather Channel, and the hours of live presentation were extended as presenters including Tracey Malmborg, Jaynie Seal, Rebecca LeTourneau, and Garry Youngberry were added. In 2003, Austar sold the channel to XYZ Networks, and The Weather Channel appeared on the Foxtel network for the first time, morphing to better suit a now largely metropolitan audience. In 2004, the channel underwent major changes including a new logo, new graphics, a revamped programming lineup, and a new version of the Weather Active interactive application for Foxtel Digital. In June 2008, the Weather Channel again had a major change to its graphics as its programming lineup continued to grow. Weather content on the channel is provided by Metra Information Limited and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology .

On 25 January 2013, following the merger of Foxtel and Austar and the closure of XYZ Networks, the channel was officially renamed Sky News Weather, bringing it under the Sky News Australia brand umbrella. Today, Sky News Weather is Australia's only 24/7 dedicated weather channel, broadcasting weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis around the clock. Programming runs on a 15-minute loop of local, national, regional, dam level, and rainfall forecasts, with continuous coverage of extreme weather events provided as required. The channel also simulcasts live the Sky News Regional-produced breakfast program Sky News Breakfast on weekdays from 6:00 am to 8:30 am .
