Antenne A online television
Antenne A is the first private television channel of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, created in 1991 with its headquarters in the Gombe district of Kinshasa. Recognized by its constitutive act signed in June 1991 as a private limited company, it began free-to-air broadcasting in April 1993 and opened the Congolese airwaves to commercial television, becoming a pioneer that was soon followed by other private stations. In its early years the channel even introduced the country to televised lottery game shows, a genuine novelty for local viewers.
The schedule is built around news and general entertainment. Antenne A News is produced in French and Lingala editions, presented over the years by journalists such as Patricia Basua, Eric Izami, Julia Kamwanya and Patricia Molengo, covering politics, society and daily life in Kinshasa and the provinces. The channel also made its name with original drama like the series Hotel Kinshasa and with talk and variety formats such as Emission Majuscule. For a time the station operated relay transmitters in Mbuji-Mayi and Tshikapa, bringing its signal beyond the capital into the Kasai provinces before insecurity forced those posts to close.
Today the channel reaches viewers through digital terrestrial television in Kinshasa and through satellite and cable distribution, and its editions also circulate widely online.
