SABC News online television

SABC News is a South African 24-hour television channel owned by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the country's public broadcaster. The primary languages of broadcasting are English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa, and other official South African languages. The channel was launched on August 1, 2013, on DStv channel 404, replacing a previous attempt at a 24-hour service called SABC News International that operated from 2007 to 2010 and later expanded to digital terrestrial television. The channel is headquartered at the SABC Television Park in Johannesburg, and its Editor-In-Chief is Deidre Uren, who was appointed to the role on April 1, 2026. The channel's slogan is "Africa's news leader" and it is available in over 50 countries across Africa.



On air, SABC News features a mix of rolling news coverage, breaking news reports, live events, political analysis, business news, and sports coverage. The flagship program is News at 6:30, the channel's hour-long prime-time news bulletin that is simulcast from SABC 3. Morning Live is the channel's flagship breakfast show, simulcast from SABC 2, airing weekdays from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and providing news, interviews, and weather. The channel also broadcasts News at 1, simulcast from SABC 3, and an hour-long Afrikaans news bulletin at 7:30 PM. Newsrooms LIVE is a midday program offering rolling coverage, commentary, and reaction to the day's unfolding news. Question Time is an interview show where newsmakers discuss topics, stories, and issues in the news in South Africa, Africa, and the world.



The channel also produces specialized programming including Sports Live, a daily program covering the day's sports news with studio guests and live crossings; Kaleidoscope, focusing on arts, culture, lifestyle, travel, and entertainment news; Network, covering technology news and social media; and Media Monitor, a show looking at the news behind the news and issues the media industry is dealing with. Edu Talk covers educational issues and topics in South Africa. The channel also broadcasts A View from the House, covering parliamentary proceedings in Cape Town when parliament is in session.



SABC News has a unique editorial identity, operating as a single news brand that provides content across 19 radio stations, 5 television channels (including SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3, SABC News, and SABC Sport), and various digital platforms. Eight of the 10 most viewed news products nationally are broadcast on SABC 1 and SABC 2, meaning SABC News contributes 80% of the top 10 news broadcasts.
