The channel first went on air in June 1995 and celebrated its 30th anniversary on March 18, 2025. The channel is based in the Jørgensby district of Flensburg, where the editorial and journalistic work is carried out by both paid staff and volunteers. OK Flensburg is part of the Offener Kanal Schleswig-Holstein network, which includes channels in Kiel, Lübeck, and on the west coast.
