Medi1TV was founded in 2006 by French journalist Pierre Casalta and was one of the first private TV channels to receive a license in Morocco. The channel was launched as a satellite channel (originally called Médi1 Sat) with the mission of covering news from Morocco and the Maghreb for audiences in North Africa and the Mediterranean region. Following a restructuring in 2009 and the departure of French investors in 2010, the channel refocused on a target audience of urban middle-class Moroccans aged 25-45, developing debate shows and information programs dedicated to Morocco and the Maghreb. In 2014, Medi1TV opened its capital to two Emirati investment firms: Steed Media (41%) and Nekst Investments (13%), with the remaining 12% held by Acacia Participations, a subsidiary of the Moroccan Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG). The channel's current CEO is Hassan Khiyar, who also serves as CEO of Radio Médi1, the most important radio station in Morocco.

Medi1TV Afrique is distributed via satellite across Africa. The channel is encrypted and available on the Canal+ Afrique package, broadcast from the SES 4 satellite at 22 degrees west. The technical parameters for reception are frequency 11671 MHz, vertical polarization, symbol rate 30000, and FEC 5/6, broadcasting in DVB-S format. The channel broadcasts in MPEG-2 standard definition format and is encrypted with Mediaguard and Nagravision systems.
