Khorasan Razavi online television
Khorasan Razavi, in Persian شبکه خراسان رضوی, is the provincial television channel of Razavi Khorasan in north-eastern Iran, part of the national broadcaster IRIB and based in Mashhad, the city of the Imam Reza shrine. It went on air on 9 March 1998, carrying forward a broadcasting tradition housed in a building that has served Mashhad since the early 1970s, and it calls itself, with reason, the network of Iran's spiritual capital. After the old Khorasan province was divided into three in 2004, the channel remained the shared screen of the whole region for years until the sister provinces opened their own services.
The channel has broadcast around the clock since June 2011 and in high definition since August 2018, when it became the first provincial channel of the national broadcaster to make that step. The grid mixes national strands with provincial work: news for the region, programmes about the life of Mashhad and the surrounding towns, religious observance tied to the shrine city's calendar, and coverage of the harvests, markets and crafts of a province that lives between the mountains and the desert. The signal leaves the province too, carried by satellite to the Persian-speaking audience far beyond Iran's borders.
For the people of Razavi Khorasan the channel is the daily mirror of the province, and for the vast diaspora it is a line back to Mashhad.
