Khatlon online television
Khatlon is the state regional television channel of the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, broadcasting from Bokhtar in Tajik and forming part of the country's state television and radio system. It was founded by a government decision in August 1993 and aired its first programmes on 1 September 1993, at first on the wave of the national broadcaster; within a year it had moved to its own frequency inside the region. Its elder sibling, Radio Khatlon, has been on the air since 1977.
The channel grew together with its region. New transmitter equipment installed in 2008 at Kulob and Toshrobod widened the regional footprint, in January 2019 the daily broadcast was extended from eighteen to twenty-one hours, and in March 2023 the service switched to high definition after a fiber-optic line reached the studios. The weekly grid carries around thirty original programmes and a daily news bulletin, Akhbor, which follows the life of the region: the work of the regional administration, harvests and markets, schools and hospitals, holidays and the everyday stories of the districts.
The channel speaks Tajik to a region that lives between the cotton fields of the Vakhsh valley and the Afghan border, and its reporting stays close to that ground.
