The channel's history dates back to 1964 when Canal 8 was created by the Ministry of Education as a cultural and educational broadcaster . After a period of suspended transmissions from 1989 to 1994, the government assigned the frequency to the Agape Association in May 1999, marking the beginning of the independent era for the channel. After two years of preparations, Agape TV officially began its 24-hour broadcasts on June 6, 2001, becoming the first 24-hour broadcasting channel in El Salvador .
