Africable TV online television
Africable TV, on air as Africable Télévision, is a pan-African general channel broadcasting from Bamako in Mali under the slogan La Chaine du Continent. It began satellite transmission on 26 June 2004 out of an initiative by young cable operators from francophone Africa, and took its present name in 2012. The project was conceived in 2003 by the chairman Ismaïla Sidibé, who relayed foreign channels into Mali from 1993 and founded the cable operator Multicanal in 1995, with the aim of widening access to information for Malian households of modest means. Programming runs in French and Bambara, in high definition, free to air, around African unity and pride.
The grid mixes news, debate, culture and sport. Afrik Midi comes from the channel's own studios at midday and Afrik Soir goes deeper into African affairs each evening, while Afrikinfos collects the bulletins of partner national broadcasters from Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Niger, Cameroon and Gabon. Le Débat du Dimanche, À votre avis and L'Invité du Jour, a twenty-six minute interview, carry current affairs; Ecomag covers the economy, Rebond and Shoot sport. Culture has Rites et Traditions, children Ministar, and La Caravane de l'Intégration, launched in 2010, travels the continent as the first road series in African television.
Watching is free and needs no set-top box beyond the cable footprint: Watch Live in a browser, on a connected television, a phone or a tablet, with the weekly grid published beside the recorded programmes.
