EWTN Germany (officially branded as EWTN.TV) is a German-language religious television channel operating in the Catholic programming format. The primary language of broadcasting is German. The channel is owned and operated by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), a global Catholic media network founded in 1981 by Mother Angelica in Irondale, Alabama, United States. EWTN began its broadcasts in Germany in July 2000, initially with English-language programs. The first German-language broadcast aired on October 29, 2000, and full 24/7 German-language programming launched in 2011. The channel is based in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and the program director is Martin Rothweiler.
On air, EWTN Germany features a mix of strictly religious and catechetical programming oriented towards the teachings of the Catholic Church. The flagship program is the daily live broadcast of the Holy Mass from Cologne Cathedral, as well as Saturday Mass from Kevelaer and Eucharistic services from the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The channel also broadcasts the daily Rosary, Eucharistic adoration, live coverage from the Vatican and papal apostolic journeys, discussions of moral and social issues, documentaries, educational programs, and children's content. Notable presenters and program contributors include psychiatrist and theologian Manfred Lütz, journalist Paul Badde, and philosopher Jörg Splett, who hosts his own program.
EWTN Germany is available free-to-air throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland via satellite on the Astra system at 19.2 degrees east, as well as on cable networks, digital terrestrial television in select regions, IPTV platforms, and via its official website and free mobile application. On September 24, 2023, Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki blessed the channel's new studio in Cologne, emphasizing EWTN.TV's important contribution to the new evangelization and the strengthening of the Christian worldview in Europe.
EWTN Germany strives to bring the gospel to millions of souls in German-speaking countries, offering viewers the opportunity to learn about and deepen their faith in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. The mission of the channel, inspired by its founder Mother Angelica, is the salvation of souls through the propagation and explanation of the Catholic faith, supporting evangelization, especially for those who cannot regularly attend church services. The channel is viewer-supported through donations and does not carry commercial advertising or receive church tax funding.
