DR2 online television
DR2 is the second television channel of DR, the Danish public service broadcaster, and it is known for a more highbrow mix of culture, documentaries, in-depth news and debate than the mainstream DR1. Funded by the media licence, it carries no commercials. It launched on 30 August 1996 and operates from the DR Byen headquarters in Copenhagen alongside its sister channels.
The channel built a reputation for satirical and experimental comedy, with series such as Casper & Mandrilaftalen and Drengene fra Angora and the talk show Den 11. time. Its documentary strand includes the ambitious national history series Historien om Danmark, while culture programmes like Kunstquiz and Smagsdommerne cover art, design and food, and Debatten and Presselogen analyse current events. Its nightly news programme Deadline airs late and focuses on analysis and debate rather than the headline bulletin.
Since 2013 DR2 has run as a 24-hour channel with hourly news and current affairs, and since 28 February 2017 it broadcasts in high definition. It is free to air across Denmark, reaches parts of southern Sweden and is also carried as a live internet feed. Watch Live in a browser on a computer, a tablet or a connected television.
