Dounia TV online television
Dounia TV is the television arm of Radio Télévision Dounia, a privately owned press group based in Niamey, Niger, founded by the journalist and businessman Abibou Garba and on air since 26 February 2007, when the group began broadcasting on 89 MHz FM and on 527.25 MHz UHF. Garba trained at the ESJ Paris, ran Ténéré FM from 1998 and launched Télévision Ténéré before leaving to set up Dounia. In a landscape dominated by the public broadcaster Télé Sahel, Dounia became one of the country's main private media groups and, per the French-language reference work, the only source of Nigerien televised news outside Télé Sahel. The company is a Société Anonyme with about 95 permanent staff and 10 interns, reachable on +227 20 74 01 80.
Programming rests on news, debate and entertainment, with weekly grids and many interactive shows open to listeners and viewers, and a stated mission to inform, educate and widen democratic debate to civil society. Alongside the bulletins and the press review the schedule has carried Café économique on business life, plus Revue, Santé +, Patrimoine, Paroles aux Femmes, Femmes En Islam, Kambé Goye, Ir Namey, Galgadi, Hit Urbain and Wayboro Wangarey, several of them in national languages. The group runs a radio studio, a television studio, six digital cameras, six video editing suites, a newsroom and four vehicles, and says its programmes also reach viewers on the Arabsat satellite.
Dounia has a documented history of clashes with the regulator. Reporters Without Borders spoke of repeated harassment. The channel is now carried as a general service from Niger in the iptv-org directory, with its feed distributed over an HLS stream.
