Disney Channel is the German edition of the international children's network of The Walt Disney Company, a free-to-air channel based in Munich that serves children through the day and families and adults in the evening. The channel first went on air on 16 October 1999 as a subscription service, closed on 30 November 2013 and returned on 17 January 2014 as a free-to-air station, taking the place of Das Vierte, the broadcaster that Disney had bought in December 2012. Its German offices opened near Munich on 1 March 1999, and the channel is catalogued as a children's service owned by Disney Entertainment.
The schedule is deliberately split into two halves. Daytime carries the classic children's output, original first-run series supplied largely by the American counterpart alongside animated comedies such as Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls, Jessie and Austin & Ally, while primetime is aimed at the whole household, with theatrical films, Pixar features, older animation and acquired series. The channel also runs made-for-television movies and selected third-party programming, everything dubbed and voiced in German, with local continuity, promotions and an official site that publishes the daily grid and the series pages.
Because the channel is free to air it reaches almost every household in Germany through terrestrial, cable and satellite distribution, and the signal is also carried as an internet stream, so viewers can Watch Live from a browser and stream online on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV. Watch TV Online Free without a subscription, follow the afternoon animation block or the evening film and keep a steady Germany Live Stream of family television running in the background: a real TV Online window onto the German Disney feed.
