Discovering China live stream

Discovering China online television

Discovering China is an English-language documentary and culture channel operated by China Global Television Network, the international arm of China Central Television under the state-run China Media Group, whose headquarters are in Beijing. The network itself was launched on 31 December 2016 to serve global audiences, and this channel joined the line-up on 6 November 2025, catalogued as a documentary and culture service from China. It extends the documentary work the network has carried since 2011, when its English-language documentary channel became the first state-level documentary service broadcasting from China in English.

The output is built around half-hour documentary editions, each offering insight into a particular aspect of life in China today, with access to the people and the places that the films follow. Subjects move between history and archaeology, the architecture of traditional villages, tea and food production, rivers, canals and the restoration of old waterways, wildlife, the working life of coastal cities and the daily routine of inland provinces, and the modern development of the country seen from the ground rather than from a studio. The tone is that of an observational travel and culture strand, aimed at an international audience that wants to understand how the country looks from inside.

The channel is distributed as a free live internet feed in high definition, so viewers can Watch Live from a browser and stream online on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV, without a subscription and without a set-top box, while the network's own site carries live television, video reports and an archive of past editions. Watch TV Online Free through the evening, follow one documentary after another and keep a steady China Live Stream of documentary television running in the background: a real TV Online window onto the country.

The archaeology episode on ancient trade routes was fascinating without feeling rushed. I liked seeing how small discoveries can connect distant regions and everyday lives.

The early morning bulletin gave a useful snapshot of regional headlines before the travel documentary came on. I liked the calm presentation, although a few stories needed more background.

The river expedition episode had some beautiful views, though I wanted more detail about the local communities along the route.

A night train journey through inland China made a surprisingly relaxing watch. The slow pace and window views were perfect for winding down.

My kids enjoyed the wildlife episode and kept asking questions about the animals and landscapes. It made for an easy family watch without the usual arguing over what to put on.
