WCCO - CBS News Minnesota online television

WCCO-TV, branded as CBS News Minnesota, is an American television channel operating in the news and information format. The primary language of broadcasting is English. The station is a CBS owned-and-operated (O&O) station, serving as the CBS outlet for the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area (the Twin Cities) and the state of Minnesota . It is owned by CBS News and Stations, a division of Paramount Global . The station broadcasts on virtual channel 4, with its studios located on South 11th Street along Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, and its transmitter at the Telefarm complex in Shoreview, Minnesota .

WCCO-TV signed on the air on July 1, 1949, as WTCN-TV, becoming Minnesota's second television station. It adopted its current call sign in 1952, derived from its former sister station WCCO (AM) . The station has a unique distinction in the Twin Cities market as the only major commercial station never to have changed its primary network affiliation, having been a primary CBS affiliate since its sign-on . It has been entirely owned by CBS since 1992 .

On air, WCCO-TV broadcasts a strong lineup of local newscasts under the branding WCCO News / CBS News Minnesota, including morning, midday, evening, and late-night newscasts . Weekday newscasts include WCCO This Morning from 4:30-7:00 AM, WCCO Mid-Morning from 9:00-10:00 AM, WCCO News at Noon, WCCO News at 4, WCCO News at 5, WCCO News at 6, and WCCO News at 10 . Weekend newscasts also air on Saturdays and Sundays . The station leads the Twin Cities market in nearly all time slots in overall household ratings, particularly from its morning show to the 10 p.m. news .

The station's evening news is co-anchored by Amelia Santaniello and Frank Vascellaro, who have co-anchored together for nearly two decades and became the first married couple to co-anchor a daily news program in the Twin Cities . Santaniello is approaching 30 years behind the anchor desk at WCCO . Both were inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2025, joining other WCCO legends including Don Shelby, Bill Carlson, Darcy Pohland, and Mark Rosen . The station's news team also includes reporters and meteorologists who are well-known figures in Minnesota broadcasting.

Beyond news, WCCO-TV broadcasts CBS network programming in primetime, including dramas, comedies, reality shows, and special events. The station also carries CBS sports broadcasts, including NFL games, college football, and the NCAA basketball tournament. Since 2023, WCCO has aired select Minnesota Golden Gophers football games as part of a new deal between CBS and the Big Ten Conference . The station also airs CBS News programs including CBS This Morning, CBS Evening News, CBS Sunday Morning, and Face The Nation .

WCCO-TV's signal is extended across central and northern Minnesota through two full-power satellite stations: KCCO-TV (channel 7) in Alexandria and KCCW-TV (channel 12) in Walker . Nielsen Media Research treats WCCO-TV and its satellites as one station in local ratings books . The station also operates a network of translators across southern and northern Minnesota to extend its over-the-air coverage .

WCCO-TV launched a streaming news service, CBS News Minnesota (formerly CBSN Minnesota), on December 12, 2019, as part of a rollout of localized versions of the national CBSN service across CBS-owned stations . This 24/7 live streaming channel provides local news coverage, weather updates, and breaking news reports. Viewers can watch online the live broadcast of CBS News Minnesota through the official CBS News website at cbsnews.com/minnesota/live, as well as on the CBS News mobile application, available for iOS and Android devices, and on connected TV platforms including Pluto TV, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV.

WCCO-TV has a rich history of broadcast firsts. On July 23, 1962, the station participated in the world's first live international broadcast via the Telstar satellite, providing the feed of Mount Rushmore for all three major networks . In 1955, WCCO became the first station in the Midwest to have a videotape machine . In 1954, a live CBS broadcast from the Foshay Tower provided the first nationally televised view of a solar eclipse . The station has won twelve George Foster Peabody Awards, more than any other Twin Cities broadcast outlet .

WCCO-TV strives to be Minnesota's most-watched and most-trusted source of local news, weather, and information. The mission of the channel is to serve the community by providing accurate, timely, and relevant coverage of the issues that matter most to Minnesotans, from the Twin Cities to greater Minnesota. Thanks to modern digital platforms, WCCO-TV provides the opportunity to watch online the live broadcast on any device - from smartphones to Smart TVs - ensuring that Minnesota residents and former residents living elsewhere can stay connected to their community wherever they are.
