Canal Capital is a Colombian free-to-air public television channel operating in the generalist and news format. The primary language of broadcasting is Spanish. The channel was created by Agreement 019 of October 1995 issued by the Bogotá City Council and began its first broadcast on November 3, 1997. The channel is owned by the Mayor's Office of Bogotá (99.4 percent) and the District Institute of Culture and Tourism (0.6 percent). Canal Capital is headquartered at Avenida El Dorado No. 66-63, Piso 5, in Bogotá, Colombia. Since 2020, Canal Capital has positioned itself as the public communication system of the Bogotá Region, maintaining a programming focus on culture, citizenship, and education across open signal, digital platforms, and audio services.
On air, Canal Capital features a mix of news bulletins, political analysis, cultural programming, documentaries, and entertainment. Special programs include En Directo, a live program directed and presented by José Fernando Patiño, an alumnus of the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente. The channel also operates Canal Eureka, a second signal dedicated to children's and youth programming. The channel's programming also includes classic Colombian series such as Hombres, featuring Margarita Rosa de Francisco, which was re-aired as part of the channel's 27th anniversary programming. Sports coverage includes the transmission of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
In 2013, the channel received the Honorable Mention for media of the Antonio Nariño Franco-German Human Rights Award for promoting human rights. In 2012, under the management of Hollman Morris, the channel transformed its programming, broadening spaces for cultural, educational, political, and human rights content. According to the Media Ownership Monitor, Canal Capital registers 3 percent audience preference and is the public channel most consulted by opinion leaders in Bogotá.
Canal Capital is available throughout the Bogotá metropolitan area and the department of Cundinamarca via digital terrestrial television at the national level, and through subscription television (cable or satellite).
