Canal 17 RTVD online television

Canal 17 RTVD is the national public television channel of the Dominican Republic, run by Radio Televisión Dominicana, the state broadcaster, and known on air as Quisqueya 17. Broadcasting from Santo Domingo, the channel offers viewers news, cultural programmes, documentaries and entertainment that reflect the life of the country, from the capital and its neighbourhoods to the towns and the rural communities of the interior.

The news backbone is the national bulletin, which reports on politics, the economy and tourism, public safety, health and education, the environment and the life of the Dominican communities, with short reports from the regions and interviews with the people involved. Cultural programmes look at the country's music, dance, literature, history and traditions, from merengue and bachata to the work of artists and craftspeople, while the schedule also carries documentaries and family shows. Sport, and baseball in particular, keeps a steady place in the grid, and family programmes fill the weekend.

For viewers in the Dominican Republic and for Dominicans living abroad, the channel is a daily window on home.
