BTV National is the largest and main station of the state-owned network Bangladesh Television, also called BTV Dhaka and branded on air simply as BTV. Its headquarters stand at Rampura in Dhaka, in the complex known as the BTV Bhaban, and the station broadcasts free to air in Bengali.

The station first went on air in the mid-1960s as a pilot service in what was then East Pakistan. The very first transmission opened with a song sung by Ferdausi Rahman, and Mordecai Cohen worked as the first announcer; the following year the outlet became a full station of the then national network, the second after Lahore. The logo still in use dates from the early 1970s, and colour was introduced at the turn of the 1980s, the first official full-time colour service in South Asia.

Distribution runs over a chain of terrestrial relay stations that together cover most of the country, plus the national Bangabandhu-1 satellite, which carries the station to the Middle East and North Africa as well. Most of the output - news, drama serials, music, magazine shows and educational programming - is produced in-house.
